More than once I have been asked, “Why are you wasting time on the disgusting lake? I wouldn’t go near Summit Lake!”
My answer, this picture.
Made a trip to Summit Lake again to clean up some trash. I got to see an old friend and had some help today! Thank you Steve for joining me. It was great to see you. He was getting some big stuff and I wanted to try and concentrate on getting some of this much…
60 pounds caught and collected before it got lost in the lake. We anticipate lots more trash at all of our booms in the near future. Everything trapped in the snow along the roads and parking lots will release as things melt and coming rains will send it through the storm sewers and into our…
Over the past year we have worked with them on several projects and looking forward to many more opportunities to share in our efforts to improve Ohio’s waterways!
We have mentioned and shown a few times one of our big goals. The removal of phragmites along the creek so we can better access and control the trash coming into the area and to better monitor pollution entering the watershed from the storm sewer outfall. In this short snip, you can see Johnny cutting…
This is the Canal Boom on the south side of Summit Lake. You will note the oil sheen on the water. It did not persist once we removed the trash. There were a couple bottles of petroleum products that were the probable source.
On our way to the canal boom south of Summit Lake, we ran into Carol and Kim and shared what we have been doing on this and other watersheds. 33 pounds out of this boom isn’t a bad haul and picked up another 20 at booms on the east side of the lake. Good way…
We pulled somewhere between 300 and 400 pounds of trash from the south west side of the lake. Pictured are Johnny, Eric and myself. Couple notes, Johnny started off in green, ended in blue, what might be the reason for that? 🤣. He also received an award for Most Trash! A fun morning! Crystal, where…
Our Youth! This video shows Dave Stoler and I along with Sherry Carnahan, spending the afternoon having a group of kids in a program at the Nature Center with Summit Metro Parks building and installing their own trash booms. We also did some cleanup along Summit Lake and explained to them how most of the…
Little rain means not much in the booms so using tools to extract some trash along the boardwalk.
