If you have traveled or visited the towpath by the Mustill Store, you have witnessed an impressive transformation of that area as a result of partnerships among many organizations, people, and entities…Enter River Guardians Ohio.
As with many revitalization actions around Akron, they center around water. The Cuyahoga, the Little Cuyahoga, Summit Lake and the Canal to name a few. “They” do excellent work in building and maintaining the infrastructure of these spaces, but had been missing a critical piece.
Our mission as River Guardians is to directly address the trash and pollution. Our trash booms are strategically planned and placed to capture floating trash and hold for a small team to collect and dispose of it routinely. Often the placement, such as the boom here near the Mustill Store, is not obvious or really visible unless you are looking for it, working 24/7/365 so that in time, the vistas and views along the way are free of visible trash.
Please take a couple minutes to watch the video and see how we deploy a boom and the almost immediate results of that deployment.
This is not to say trash is not addressed. All do a good job with cleanups and the like, our goal is to reduce the need for those.
