This area on Summit Lake has been “occupied” for some time now and there is a lot of trash to be removed. One step at a time. We opened the area up so there aren’t easy places to hide and this gives us access to all the trash in the water that we have not been able to get.
126 pounds removed and moved the bigger items to a spot for easier removal in the near future. Not pretty yet, but we will get it there!
This stretch collects a lot of trash before it gets lost in Tuscarawas, however, the water quality seems to be degrading since last year this time. We are working with agencies to figure this out and turn it back around.
Over the past year we have worked with them on several projects and looking forward to many more opportunities to share in our efforts to improve Ohio’s waterways!

Update is: There was a very large trash dam upstream just south of Wooster Rd. There was a large volume of oil in that dam but where that originated from is not known. In collaboration, the City of Akron, City of Barberton and the OEPA put in a hard boom downstream, crews entered the water…
